The Long-Awaited Future: Advanced Technologies Paving Their Way to Fashion

In the fashion space, just as in any other industry, there is a constant race to the top of the fashion summit among brands, retail outlets, designers, celebrities, and regular customers. However, only the selected few are actually ahead of the curve — those who disrupt the status quo in the game and see themselves at the cutting edge of ever-evolving technologies, not forgetting emerging trends!

It seems fair to say that the human race has always valued experiences as much as things — they simply go hand in hand. While it can partly explain our appreciation of the premium quality that catches our eyes, one question still remains somewhat of a mystery — why are we so obsessed with fashion? The reasons might differ depending on the views of each of us, but undeniably, what we wear plays a crucial role in how we see ourselves and what our world looks like. For those eager to look into the future of fashion, we are now developing the Cosmos Art Pavilion project, an immersive pop-up gallery underlining the harmony between the world around us and the world ‘on’ us. Given that the fashion industry — as it is right now — looks rather like a barrier on the path to a brighter future, we believe that through leading conversations about sustainable fashion, pinpointing the consequences of fast fashion, educating, innovating, and inspiring, we can turn the tables and build up a bridge between the two inextricably linked aspects — the beauty of the Universe and the beauty of human beings.

Presenting the latest innovations and technologies in fashion, Cosmos Art Pavilion will use 3D printing technology for its construction. By incorporating local soil and raw materials and thus reducing harm to the environment to a bare minimum, the project itself can be seen as a vivid example of advanced technologies. From my perspective, this is where the fashion sector has to step up and take its online and in-store experiences to new heights, staying tuned in to the latest high tech trends and the needs of customers and nature.

As we know, artificial intelligence is already reshaping the online landscape, and soon enough, it will take its well-deserved seat in the fashion front row as well. Both tech giants Google and Amazon immersed themselves in developing a personalized AI design algorithm. However outlandish it may sound at first, it will surely be a thing of the future: much like your social news feed based on your data and preferences, your own clothing design can underline your unique individuality. Isn’t it worthy of admiration?

While AI also helps fashion brands, Tommy Hilfinger, Zara, H&M, to name a few, successfully predict market demands, establish a competitive price range, and evade overproduction, it’s not only AI that pushes the limits of the world of fashion. Augmented reality and virtual reality technologies are also on the rise, providing both online and retail shops of any size with an effective tool to close the current gap between digital and in-store experiences.

When online, shoppers are eager to make sure they’re getting what exactly they want. In the e-commerce sector, on-demand sneakers produced with 3D printing technologies have already become quite a regular practice, especially in the sportswear niche, with Adidas, New Balance, and Reebok at the frontline of the trend. No doubt that the customization trend will make the others join the pack — wouldn’t it be too late for them?

Unsurprisingly, advanced tech has also put the spotlight on the marketing field, with its boundless opportunities to amaze customers. What if there’s a pop-up on your screen picturing you standing on a sand beach around palms in the outfit you checked out a couple of days ago? Would you be more interested in buying it now? We are not fully there yet, but not so far off: 3D scanning combined with augmented reality breathes new life into the concept of dressing rooms — be that in stores or in the quiet of your home!

Usually, when trying the outfit on in the fitting room, you look in the mirror, imagining the environment for which the outfit was designed. Do you agree that it could have been much easier to determine whether it fits you or not if you could literally see the outfit’s natural habitat in the mirror’s background? Topshop and Uniqlo, with their in-store “magic mirrors,” are a case in point. What more do we need?

Actually, at times we need an honest opinion on our outfit choices! Not once or twice have we all heard these fake ‘you look great’ responses — so that the only thing we could dare dream of at the moment is a personal stylist. In fact, it’s not such a baseless dream: with AI constantly evolving, there are some examples of how AI-powered fashion assistants can do us a favor by giving feedback and recommendations, plus suggesting new looks or alternatives worth a shot.

Just as much as we expect from advanced technologies, so does the fashion industry expect from us. Take, for instance, conscious consumption and sustainability within the fashion space: today’s younger generations make a world of difference, raising quite pressing issues such as a useless abundance of products, malign consequences of the wear-it-once culture, untold waste in production, and the list goes on and on. As a result, fast fashion slows down, and more and more socially conscious shoppers emerge — those who wised up to the importance of sustainable materials and transparent manufacturing as well as the scale of the problem of low labor costs.

It is vital to remember that we are all in the same boat, and only together may we reverse the patterns of compulsive consumption and shape our new — healthier and more conscious — reality. Making informed choices and seeing the bigger picture — which requires clarity and conscious effort — are of great value for making this planet a better place. Only by getting to know ourselves better can we break down the classic behavioral patterns and get out of vicious circles we’ve been looped in. Although AI technologies are not an antidote for any disease, they do wonders for us.

Our Human Cosmos AI-powered app helps users increase their awareness and find the connection between the world around them and the world inside them. At times we all go with the flow, which often comes at a high cost — having your life running on autopilot. Human Cosmos’ practices and techniques are designed to take the helm back and tightly hold a grasp on reality — however stormy the life flow can be! We believe the more mindful we are, the higher odds we can make this planet a better place. For this reason, the Human Cosmos app takes a personalized approach to each of its users, placing the focus on the cosmos hidden inside us. Isn’t it now our turn to look at ourselves?
